“The water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14).
In May of 2015 I stood at the base of Mount Hermon in northern Israel at a place called Tel Dan. Fountains of totally pure drinking water, the headwaters of the Jordan River, gushed from out of the mountain and cascaded southward on route to the fish-filled Sea of Galilee, and beyond to the fertile Jordan River Valley. In contrast, several days later I stood on the banks of the Dead Sea, the saltiest body of water on earth where no life can exist. The Dead Sea is dead because it is always receiving but never giving water.
The picture our Lord described here is not that of a simple stream of water, but an overflowing fountain that is continually “being filled”, that we may be a blessing to everyone. Like the Sea of Galilee, as surely as we receive blessings from Him, He will pour out blessings through us; our “Source” never runs out of water. But if we find that we are more like the Dead Sea, always receiving but never giving, perhaps it is time to re-examine our relationship with Christ to see if anything is blocking that fountain of living water and affecting our generosity.
Firstlight International is a ministry analogous to the Sea of Galilee and fertile Jordan River Valley, the picture of continuous blessing of living water flowing from Christ to the nations, and a reflection of the generosity of you, her Support Team Partners. Your kingdom finance is flowing out through Firstlight to reach the nations!
